Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Akhmad Wiyagus, emphasized that Region-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) play a strategic role in accelerating local economic growth as part of the national development targets set by President Prabowo Subianto.
Wiyagus delivered the statement during a joint meeting with members of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) regarding the supervision of BUMD and Regional Development Banks, as well as the implementation of electronic defense services in West Kalimantan Province. The meeting was held at the Bank Kalbar Meeting Hall in Pontianak on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
In his presentation, Wiyagus explained that the national development direction for the next five years is outlined in the Asta Cita agenda. The main targets include 8 percent economic growth, improved public welfare, inflation control, higher Human Development Index (HDI), strengthened food and energy security, and the implementation of the free nutritious meal program.
“Achieving the national targets set by the President requires the support of all components of the nation, including local governments,” Wiyagus said, as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Home Affairs (kemendagri.go.id).
He added that the Ministry of Home Affairs plays a central role in supervising and guiding regional governments, including the management of BUMD, as mandated by Law Number 23 of 2014 on Regional Government.
According to him, BUMD are not established solely to generate profits, but also to provide public services and stimulate local economic growth. The profits generated are expected to become one of the sources of Regional Original Revenue (PAD).
To perform this role optimally, Wiyagus stressed the importance of sustainable management. BUMD must maintain healthy financial conditions, adapt to changes, identify business opportunities, and align with regional development visions.
Furthermore, BUMD should focus on regional leading sectors, strengthen capital structures, improve human resource quality, utilize digital technology, and expand cooperation with various stakeholders.
On the same occasion, Wiyagus also highlighted the role of Regional Development Banks (BPD) as part of BUMD in strengthening local economies, supporting financing for communities and businesses, and maintaining regional economic stability.
He noted that strengthening BPD should be carried out through capital enhancement, good corporate governance, information technology utilization, and the development of organizational and human resource capacity.
In closing, Wiyagus appreciated the efforts of the West Kalimantan Provincial Government, which has strengthened BUMD governance through additional capital injections and business diversification.
“This step reflects the region’s commitment to building professional and accountable BUMD,” he concluded.
