The Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, expressed his appreciation for the launch of the latest Indonesian National Team jersey introduced at the North Plaza of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (March 12). The jersey is the result of a collaboration between PSSI and the sports apparel brand Kelme, which is now the official supplier of the Indonesian National Team equipment.
The launch marks an important moment for PSSI in presenting a new identity for the Garuda squad. In addition to maintaining the iconic red and white colors that symbolize national pride, the latest jersey design also incorporates Indonesian cultural elements through batik motifs embedded in its details.
During the event, Erick stated that the use of batik motifs is an appropriate step to introduce Indonesian culture to the international stage. According to him, batik is a cultural heritage that must continue to be preserved and promoted, including through sports.
“Why use batik? Because batik truly belongs to us. We must not let it be claimed by other nations. That’s something I believe deserves appreciation, that we highlight batik as Indonesia’s identity,” said Erick, as quoted from the official PSSI website.
Home and Away Designs Show Different Characteristics
The latest Indonesian National Team jersey comes in two main variants: a red home jersey and a white away jersey. The home jersey maintains the traditional red color that represents the national team’s identity, now enhanced with patterns inspired by traditional woven fabrics.
