The Indonesian government has once again demonstrated its strong commitment to supporting the growth of the national esports industry. As reported by Esports ID, this support was reflected in a meeting between Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and delegates from MOONTON Games, which took place at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on March 2, 2026.

This meeting marked a strategic step by the government to strengthen the esports ecosystem in Indonesia while also encouraging the development of young digital talent across the country. Collaboration between the government and the global gaming industry is expected to accelerate the growth of the national digital economy and position Indonesia as one of the major forces in the global esports industry.

Esports Viewed as an Industry of the Future

During the meeting, Vice President Gibran emphasized that esports has evolved far beyond mere entertainment. According to him, the sector has become an important part of the creative industry capable of opening up numerous new career opportunities, particularly for younger generations.

Gibran highlighted that the esports industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly and holds significant potential to elevate the nation’s presence on the international stage. Indonesia is known as one of the largest markets for competitive gaming, particularly for popular titles such as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

The discussion also underscored the importance of talent scouting programs to identify esports players from an early stage. Additionally, both the government and industry representatives agreed to strengthen digital athlete development programs and expand collaboration between game developers, esports organizations, and educational institutions.

New Career Opportunities for Young Generations

Government support for esports is considered crucial for ensuring sustainable career paths for young players in Indonesia. Kenny Deo, a coach from Alter Ego Esports, stated that government involvement can help create a more structured competitive ecosystem.

According to him, supportive policies and facilities from the government would allow young players to pursue clearer career pathways. This includes structured training programs, tiered competitive leagues, and professional certification systems for esports athletes.

Furthermore, collaboration between the gaming industry and the education sector is seen as essential for developing digital talents who not only excel at gaming but also possess knowledge in technology, team management, and digital content creation.

Jakarta Gains Global Esports Attention

The meeting also highlighted Indonesia’s success in hosting the M7 World Championship, which took place in Jakarta in January 2026.

The tournament achieved an impressive milestone, reaching more than 5.68 million peak concurrent viewers during the grand finals. This figure stands as one of the highest viewership records in the history of Mobile Legends esports competitions.

The successful organization of this prestigious global event demonstrated Indonesia’s readiness in terms of infrastructure and its massive esports fan base. It also strengthened Jakarta’s reputation as one of the emerging global hubs for esports.

MOONTON Expands Collaboration in Indonesia

During the meeting, Cherry Xia, Vice President of Publishing and Esports at MOONTON Games, expressed appreciation for the Indonesian government’s support for the esports industry.

She noted that Indonesia has been one of the company’s most important markets for more than a decade. For that reason, MOONTON plans to expand its collaborations with various stakeholders across Indonesia.

The company aims to reach beyond Jakarta and explore other regions throughout the archipelago in order to discover new esports talents who may not yet have gained national exposure.

In addition to developing esports competitions and ecosystems, MOONTON Games has also been actively involved in social initiatives in Indonesia. One of these initiatives is the charity campaign titled “Golden Month”, which will take place during Ramadan 2026.

Through this program, the gaming community is encouraged to participate in fundraising efforts aimed at supporting children battling cancer and underprivileged youth.

These activities are carried out through community engagement and special in-game features, allowing players to contribute directly to meaningful social causes.

Towards Indonesia’s Digital Future

The collaboration between the Indonesian government and global gaming companies such as MOONTON Games is expected to bring significant benefits to the national esports industry.

With stronger policy support, infrastructure development, and structured talent programs, Indonesian esports athletes will have greater opportunities to compete on the international stage.

At the same time, the rapid growth of the esports industry is opening new investment opportunities in the technology and digital entertainment sectors. With the number of gamers continuing to grow each year, Indonesia is widely regarded as having the potential to become one of the leading esports hubs in Southeast Asia.
